Friendly Neighborhood Paperboy
Charles grew up in Huntington Beach, California. At age nine, he started working odd jobs around the neighborhood, mowing lawns, drawing up blueprints, and completing paper routes with his older brother, John. He sang in the St. Bonaventure Children’s Choir and learned to play the clarinet.

Marina High & the Amigos
An excellent student with a quick wit and sharp mind, Charles graduated high school a year early in 1974. At the time, he played clarinet in the Marina High School Band and enjoyed the Beatles and Tom Clancy’s novels. In 1975, he became the youngest founding member of the Amigos de Bolsa Chica, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the Bolsa Chica wetlands from development.

“Dad has been known to say: ‘In the beginning, there were the Beatles.’” - Rosy

P. Falzon Construction
Charles received his Bachelor’s in Business/Accounting from CSU Long Beach, becoming the first in his family to graduate college. He went on to spearhead the business-end of his family’s general contracting and building business, P. Falzon Construction. It was around this time that he traveled the world to London, Malta, Australia, Tahiti, and elsewhere alongside his dear friend, Leona.

Meeting Anna
When Anna relocated to Huntington Beach, California from New York in 1989, she joined St. Bonaventure Choir to meet like-minded people. Charles had been conducting the choir for nearly a decade when Anna asked him to show her around town. They began dating shortly after.

“We joined the Young Adults Group at the Church for a camping trip and I was clueless. I’m a city girl and I brought my silk pajamas and slippers! Charles was laughing his head off.” - Anna

Wedding Bells
Charles and Anna married on August 13, 1994 at St. Bonaventure Church, surrounded by close friends and family. Photos were taken at Carr Park across from the Church and a reception was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Newport Beach.

“It was such a hot day - I had to have a mini fan stuck under my dress to keep me cool in the Church. And then the Bentley Charles had rented out didn’t have an air conditioner!” - Anna

Lily Rose
Lily Rose was born on January 16, one day before her godfather’s - Charles’ youngest brother, Paul - birthday. He often took her out of Kindergarten class early to go to Disneyland and would have to hold her while she cried about being too short to ride the rollercoasters.

“When I was nine, he gave me my first computer. I wasn’t sure what to do with it, but I started writing newspaper stories about our family life using an ancient Word processing program. In addition to his unstoppable humor, he always had this infectious attraction towards all-things technologically innovative.” - Lily

Daisy Anne
Daisy Anne was born on Charles’ birthday - October 29, in 1998 - the same day Charles won a giant pumpkin in a raffle at work. Growing up, Daisy loved playing board games with her dad, especially Clue, although she was frequently annoyed by how skilled he was at beating everyone.

“Dad would always put celebrating my birthday above his. I think he just didn’t want to commemorate growing a year older.” - Daisy

Rosiana "Rosy" Erica
Rosiana Erica was born on November 12, 2000, a few week’s prior to Charles’ dad’s birthday. Charles frequently played a referee at her soccer matches and even assumed the role of “Cookie Mom” for her Girl Scout Troop, which meant all the troop’s cookies ended up in our living room!

“When I was little, I would hold onto his belt loops in large crowds because I was scared of getting lost.” - Rosy

A House Filled with Music
Charles and Anna passed on their love for music to their girls, enrolling Lily in piano lessons, Daisy in guitar and drum lessons, and Rosy in vocal training throughout their childhoods. All the while, Charles continued to conduct the St. Bonaventure Contemporary Choir and remained actively involved in environmental advocacy through the Amigos de Bolsa Chica and local civic affairs as Chair of the Huntington Beach Finance Board. But nothing brought Charles more joy than listening to his daughters sing.

Travels Abroad
In 2009, Charles and family ventured across oceans to traverse his in-law’s homeland, visiting Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou with dozens of Anna’s extended family members. Shortly after our trip, Anna’s father, Eric, received a cancer diagnosis. Charles began working from home to support his father-in-law as much as possible and prioritize the needs of his girls. Blessedly, Eric rapidly recovered.

Emma Joins the Family
Charles decided to take in Emma, Anna’s niece from Hangzhou, China, so she could continue her education in the United States. She graduated from the University of Southern California in 2017, a year before Lily graduated from the University of Notre Dame. Charles considered Emma to be his own daughter.

The Pacific Northwest
During Lily’s senior year of high school, she was named a Homecoming Princess and escorted by Charles onto the football field during halftime. That summer, the family went on a cruise from Seattle towards Alaska, stopping in Juno, Ketchikan, and Victoria. Anna’s father’s younger sisters and their families joined in what became a reunion for Anna’s extended family.

“According to Mom, he’s only worn a tux twice in his lifetime. The first was at their wedding - he wore white. The second was at my Homecoming - he and I both wore black. What an honor!” - Lily

Malta & Rome
Anna and Charles celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a family trip to Malta and Rome. That same year, Charles joined St. Bonaventure as Parish Manager and Rosy began her freshman year at Pomona College.

“In Malta, Dad was the happiest I’ve ever seen him. He was practically running everywhere, we had to chase him!” - Rosy

Celebration Season
Despite the difficulties the pandemic brought to daily life, the need to shelter-in-place brought all four of Charles’ girls home in 2020. In 2021 alone, Daisy graduated from Chapman University, Lily from Peking University, and Emma from Columbia University. That same year, Charles watched Rosy perform with Pomona College’s Glee Club and blessed Emma’s engagement to Darwin Su.

Charles quietly passed into the next life on February 4, 2022 after a month-long battle with Covid-19 induced pneumonia.
